Marge Green, Worst of the Worst, Mass Shooting Edition

Published

on

A small detail in the context of the latest mass shooting, this time in Allen, Texas. Eight people died, including children. (The shooter was also shot by a cop who happened to be at the mall for reasons unrelated to the shooting.) That detail is Rep. Marjorie Green, simply the worst racist degenerate who somehow managed to become the de facto Republican leader in the House of Representatives. in the new Congress.

Green this morning went to twitter noted that the shooter “looks Hispanic” and, in her opinion, “looks like a gang tattoo on his arm.” And then he added: “Section 42 ends Thursday, and CBP says more than 700,000 migrants will stream across the border.”

The shooter was identified as Mauricio Garcia, a 38-year-old security guard from Dallas. I haven’t seen any reports of Garcia’s immigration or civil status. But it is likely that he is a US citizen. If he worked as a security guard, it is unlikely that he did not have documents. Be that as it may, for Green it is about Section 42 and the ban on the entry of undocumented migrants into the country.

In the real world law enforcement officers said NBC News and other news outlets that “Garcia had multiple social media accounts and appeared to be attracted to a neo-Nazi and white supremacist. In addition, when he was killed, he had a patch with the right abbreviation on his chest.

In other words, basically your garden variety is a mass shooter and far-right terrorist.

This is part of a new model that we’ve seen a few times this month alone. The out-of-control mass shootings tell the unfathomable mystery of human evil, the American mental health crisis, or the need for even more guns. (Greene repeated the last argument.) Unless the shooter is Hispanic, then everything changes.

Nonprofits and Lawmakers Worry Ending Section 42 Will Deplete Resources

Published

on

Marisa Limon Garza, executive director of an El Paso, Texas-based nonprofit immigrant legal services organization, said her organizations’ resources are already drained ahead of an expected increase in migration when border controls end this week in the pandemic era.

After the end of the border directive known as Section 42, she, like her, will face the daunting task of educating migrants about procedures and pathways that organizations have not followed in years, some of which are completely new.

“We have a limited number of attorneys and accredited representatives,” said Limon Garza of the Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center. “We’re limited in what we can provide and it’s really difficult in the face of so many changes.”

Border nonprofits and local communities have begun to prepare for the fallout on May 11 from the repeal of the Section 42 policy, which, as of March 2020, allows border agents to return migrants without considering their protection claims.

But many of these organizations face a significant lack of resources, from shelter places to free lawyers to help migrants with their immigration cases. The tension has sparked a debate on Capitol Hill about how best to deal with a potential surge in border migration in the coming months and how federal funds can help.
